Thallus with greyish, rather flat lobes widening towards the end and with stiff ciliae at the margins. Uppersurface finely felted. Apothecia on short stalks; discs brownish-black, often pruinose.
On bark of old deciduous trees - often in avenues. In Denmark rare and declining because of airpollution.
